Matariki is a special time of year, that we celebrate with learning. As part of our Matariki celebrations room 7 has made some woven stars. Aren't they gorgeous?

TUESDAY! Done and dusted..

Today has been a very eventful day! We started the day with room 4,  doing an experiment as part of this term’s concept. We mixed mentos and coke together and found out that it creates a fizzing overflow. Who would of thought?!

We then started our feathers for the korowai our school is making, and for writing we created big love hearts with little notes about cooperative learning on them. We are all part of one big team here in room 7!

What does it mean to be a principal?

What does a principal do? They are a bit like a teacher.. But we don't often see them in the classroom. We know that principals are very important but we have thinking about how they might spend their days..

Today room 7 engaged in some oral language activities focused on their current knowledge surrounding school principals. Then we wrote about what we think they do! Tomorrow we will talk about all the different things principals do and see how accurate our writing was.

Before we do that please take the time to check out our video! All these ideas are AMAZING!!
Please note you will have to turn off our blog's background music off to hear this video. The function for this is at the bottom of the page :)

Another block creation!

Look at what Jeremy, D'Angelo, VJ and Nikash created before school! A temple! How cool!
We talked about the temple's structure, and how they made it balance. There is so much we can learn, even before the bell goes!

Birthday celebrations

Room 7 loves to celebrate special occasions. Look at what Jasiah's family brought in for all of us to share!! Aren't we lucky??

A big thank you! It was a great treat after our reading session this morning.

Math Masterminds!

Here we are busy trying to solve Mother Bear's problem..

She needs to make some jackets for her 5 cubs. And each jacket needs to have 5 buttons... We are trying to solve how many buttons Mother Bear needs in total.

Solving problems like these takes a WHOLE lot of thinking! Luckily we know that drawing a few pictures, thinking aloud with our buddies and pulling out our skip counting skills will help us reach the final answer. :)

We are brrrrrr... BRILLIANT!

Experimenting with colours!

Earlier last week, Room 7 talked about all the different colours that we know!
We thought it would be a good idea, to make some predications about what colours we might be able to  make by mixing other colours together.

Some of us thought we could make green with purple and yellow. Others thought that maybe blue and black would do the trick...

After some mixing, we discovered that blue and yellow are the two colours we need to mix to make green. We also discovered that red and white makes mawhero. Further testing allowed us to conclude that the more white we mix with the red, the lighter the pink is!

Exciting stuff!!!

For those of you that haven't seen it...

If you haven't had a chance to pop into Room 7, then you won't have seen the pictures of our skittles experiment that we have displayed on our concept wall.

Nonetheless, I hope that your child has told you all about it. It was great fun!

We put skittles around the edge of a plate and poured warm water over it. Guess what happened?! All of the colour from the skittles came off the skittles themselves and formed a beautiful design in the water!

Most of us weren't expecting that! This science experiment was such a hit that we were able to write about it as well. All of us wrote instructions on how to do the experiment incase we ever need to tell our friends and whanau. :)

Books are more interesting when they are jumbo size. Or so I have been told! (by the gorgeous Room 7 students)

Here is a photo of Gurleen, Jannatpreet and Ilham (left to right) reading big books during silent reading time.

Samoan Language Week

Wow! Samoan language week was such a success!

We started the week with the flag raising ceremony, and that same afternoon Room 7 had a visit from Miss Malietoa who taught us how to greet each other in Samoan.

We also met up with the rest of the junior school each day of the week to learn the song Savalivali which we performed as part of the Samoan language Week assembly!

Amongst all of this we even found the time to make Samoan flags to wave and support the other performers in the assembly :)

What great fun! Here's a photo of us wearing ula lole :)
